With its truly revolutionary controller, Nintendo tried to put everyone on the same playing level with the Wii. And they did, the intuitive controller is fun for hard-core gamers as well as kids and moms who never had an interest in video games before. Nintendo’s goal with the Wii was to appeal to the largest demographic as they could. They wanted to not only attract hard-core gamers of both genders with traditional blood and gore shoot-em-up titles, but also appeal to non gamers who had never played any video game system before. They way the Wii is controlled is a cinch to master, and that is the reason that so many people who had never though about playing video games went out and bought a Wii after they experienced how much fun it could be.
Along with completely revolutionizing the way you play, Nintendo is also on the forefront of developing games that appeal to a more diverse group of people. The main reason many people have never tried video games is because the games themselves didn’t appeal to them. The Wii has changed this too with many games that break with tradition and appeal to people of all ages and gender.
Women have long been though of as non gamers, and although there are many women gamers that enjoy traditional video games, men still greatly out number them. Nintendo decided that they wanted to branch out and begin to appeal to everyone, not just gamers that had been playing for years. The Nintendo Wii has more titles that appeal to women than any other video game system and allows women that have never played to begin on the same foot as men. Appealing to women was a bold move for Nintendo, but it was one that paid off as the Wii is very popular among women who might have not purchased a video game system otherwise.
Even though many people think kids are the target audience for video games, the majority of gamers who play on console systems are men of about 30 years old. This is not to say that kids don’t play, but many games are too graphic for them and the controls, until the Wii came along, were too complicated for young children to master. The Wii changed this as well, and offers more family friendly game titles and a much easier way for children to play. Before the Wii, kids under 6 or 7 were forced to watch as the buttons and joysticks on the controllers were usually too much for them too master. Nintendo’s vision of making video games fun and assessable to people of all ages applied to kids as well and now even the youngest tykes can play along with their parents in family friendly games.
Perhaps one of the toughest demographics to get interested in video games is the elderly. Older people who didn’t have video games as children probably never picked them up and as result had no interest in them until the Wii. Nintendo wanted everyone to be able to play and for adults who may have had a problem mastering complex controls of other video game systems later in life can easily join in and play the Wii with their families. The Nintendo Wii has added a new dimension to gaming and opened up a whole new world to people who would never have played video games until the Wii.

Chances are if you own a Nintendo Wii you have spent countless hours experiencing the cool new way of playing games. The Wii is by far the most innovative game system to date and with all the neat features there is bound to be a few hidden secrets tucked away within the console and in the Wii sports game that comes with it. In the Photo Channel you can view pictures from your SD memory card and do cool things to them like make them into slide shows and puzzles on the screen. But did you know that the annoying cat that runs across the screen of the Photo Channel will give you tips if you catch it by using the A and B buttons? You can also unlock a whopping 194 piece puzzle by holding down the one button on the Wii remote when you select any other puzzle number. You can also play with your favorite photos even if you don’t have an SD card, you can email them from your computer to your Wii message board if it is connected to the Internet.
The Wii Sports game that comes with the Nintendo Wii console has its own set of secrets as well. In bowling you can throw the ball into other people’s lanes, throw the ball behind you and scare the Miis sitting in the chairs, and you can change the color of the ball by holding down one of the directional pads on the Wii remote during the warning screen. In the training part of the bowling game, if you aim just right on the last frame, you can roll the ball all the way down the divider and create an explosion that knocks down all the pins.
Baseball, tennis, boxing, and golf have their own secrets too. In baseball you can pitch underhand by pressing the two buttons before you pitch and press the one button to return to overhand. In tennis the normal court you play on is green but to get a blue court hold down the two buttons immediately before the game starts. Boxing has its own secrets too like silver gloves. If you want these special gloves you have to defeat the grand champion and hold down the one button right before the match starts. On the beginner course in golf on the 3rd hole there is a small partially hidden spot of green on the far left. If you can make it to this spot you have a perfect shot to the hole.

The Nintendo Wii is the most revolutionary video game system on the market today. While it is not on the cutting edge of the graphics curve, the unique controller sets it apart from the other next generation consoles well enough to have pushed it to the top of the video game market. The Wii has outsold its competition because Nintendo took a chance developing an innovative new control system that would appeal to the masses and leave even hard-core gamers amazed. The Wii has done just that, amazed everyone by becoming the most popular game system all because of its unique controller.
The Wii controller, also known as the “Wiimote,” is totally intuitive and uses the movement of the controller itself to move the cursor or character on the screen. Until the release of the Nintendo Wii, each game system had pretty much identical controllers. You held them with both hands and used one thumb to control a joystick or analog pad to move your character and the other to press buttons. With the Nintendo Wii’s revolutionary remote you no longer had to use a clumsy joystick to control the action. Pointing the controller at the screen and moving it around would do the trick.
The Wii controller is powered by Bluetooth technology and contains accelerometers and gyroscopes that allow it to sense how it is being moved. The Wii remote can sense when it is tilted and rotated up and down, left and right and rotated around in a circle as if you were turning a screwdriver. It can also sense how fast each motion is performed.
The intuitive technology of the Wii remote makes it a controller anyone can use. You don’t have to learn how to use a joystick or master confusing button configurations, if you can move your hand you can a game. The Wii controller is also fast and accurate. You can move a cursor from one side of the screen to the other with just a flick of the wrist. It responds just like you would expect it to when you point it at the screen moving in whatever direction you tilt the controller.
It adds a whole new level to many games that lost a lot of realism in the controls. Swinging a baseball bat, fishing pole or sword with a conventional controller is nothing like the real thing but with the Wii controller you maneuver these objects just like you would in real life. The ability to play games with this much ease and realism was what Nintendo was counting on to make the Wii popular and it proved to be a hit.
Because the Nintendo Wii is so popular, people naturally want to play together. The Wii controller uses Bluetooth technology to communicate with the console so up to four controllers can be used at the same time. There is no reason to worry about tangled cords or getting in each others way because the Wii controllers work up to 30 feet away from the sensor. The popularity of the Wii is because of all the innovation that went into the system and the controller is the most unique aspect. It allows anyone, even those who have never played a video game, to enjoy playing with precision and ease.
